Money Management program volunteer sitting with senior citizen

The Springwell Money Management volunteers and staff have been so good to me. I was in total despair – I had bills on top of one another. Thanks to their support, I’m now almost up to date, and I’m totally avoiding being late on any of my bills.

Money Management Program

Taking care of monthly bill paying and maintaining a budget can be overwhelming for some people due to aging or physical limitations. A little support with managing finances is often one of the services individuals need in order to maintain their independence.

OVERVIEW

The Money Management Program is a volunteer-based program that assists older adults and individuals with disabilities who are having difficulty managing personal household budgets, paying bills, keeping track of banking records, or handling other issues related to personal finances.  An assigned volunteer will visit on a monthly basis to assist with such tasks as establishing a budget, organizing and sending out mail, balancing a checkbook, reviewing and paying bills, and reconciling bank statements.  The goal of the program is to help individuals maintain their independence for as long as possible.

WHY SPRINGWELL

Springwell has a track record of more than 20 years bringing this service to the community. We collaborate with Mass Home Care Association, and the Massachusetts Executive Office of Elder Affairs to maintain standards for the program, and have established our own Money Management Advisory Council made up of bank representatives and community members. These collaborative efforts ensure that volunteers are properly screened, trained and supervised, that proper monitoring safeguards are in place, and that sufficient liability insurance is maintained to protect both the participants’ accounts and the volunteers.
