If you enjoy driving and are comfortable navigating around greater Boston, this program is for you!

Medical Escort Volunteering

Medical appointments can be tiring and difficult for some older adults to negotiate on their own. Sometimes those who don’t drive need more than just a ride in order to get to these important health care appointments. Medical Escort volunteers use their own vehicles to transport and escort older adults to and from medical appointments while providing support, guidance, and assistance.

Springwell Medical Escort Volunteers provide eligible seniors with an escort to medical appointments within Belmont, Brookline, Needham, Needham, Waltham, Watertown, Wellesley, Weston, surrounding towns and Boston hospitals. Medical Escorts typically wait during the appointment and provide accompaniment home, providing transport and companionship. Medical Escorts also provide minimal assistance getting into and out of a car and into the medical facility.

Springwell has more than 30 years of experience working with volunteers. One thing we know for sure is that kindness matters. Because of Springwell Volunteers: People are less lonely. People are less anxious. People can get to important medical appointments. People feel heard. People are able to enjoy a healthy meal in a friendly environment. People know someone cares.

Each volunteer is screened to determine their interests, trained and carefully matched with a senior in the community. Program managers are always available to answer volunteers’ questions and handle any concerns that may arise.
