Main Street Group Foundation Supports Springwell’s Money Management Program

As reports of elder financial abuse rise, Springwell received word that the Main Street Group Foundation would be providing a grant in support of its Money Management Program for 2024. Recently, Julie Aldie, Jamie Conaghan, and Jeff Tucker of Main Street Bank presented the grant that will help low-income, vulnerable seniors and adults with disabilities manage their finances and remain independent. Springwell’s Money Management Program volunteers provide monthly in-home assistance with routine money management tasks, provide guidance on how to stretch a budget and information about dangerous money scams. The program serves thirty-four greater Boston, MetroWest, Middlesex, and Norfolk County communities.

“Main Street Bank’s generous support makes a statement about their commitment to the most vulnerable members of our shared communities and especially those served by Springwell’s Money Management Program,” says Springwell Chief Community Engagement Officer, Beth Schultz.  “This program is provided free to vulnerable, low-income elderly and disabled residents, thanks to the partnership of a number of local corporate and foundation donors who close the gap between state funding for the program and the costs to run it.”

The Money Management Program recruits, trains and provides intense supervision to a corps of dedicated volunteers who provide monthly in-home assistance with routine money management tasks; guidance on how to stretch one’s budget; and education about money scams. Springwell collaborates with the Mass Home Care Association, the Massachusetts Executive Office of Elder Affairs and a Money Management Advisory Council, made up of bank representatives and community members, to maintain standards for the program.
