CitySide Subaru and MetroWest Subaru partner to deliver Meals on Wheels
Springwell provides Meals on Wheels for 20 communities in Massachusetts delivering nearly 1000 meals daily. In a world where so many things can be automated, the delivery of a nutritious meal still needs the human touch of a person bringing it to the door with a cheerful greeting.
As an essential part of the social safety net for thousands of older adults, Springwell always needs volunteer drivers to deliver meals. CitySide Subaru and MetroWest Subaru have each been longtime supporters of Springwell through the Share the Love campaign. While CitySide and MetroWest may compete for car sales, this year during Share the Love, they partnered with each other and Springwell to make a significant difference in the lives of older adults in our communities. CitySide and MetroWest, led by general managers Nathan White and VJ Donnelly, respectively, hosted a volunteer recruitment open house with Springwell which resulted in new home delivered meals drivers being on the road just a few days after the event! White and Donnelly were instrumental in spreading the word about the Open House. They came out for the event to welcome guests and share valuable information about the program. Donnelly inspired potential volunteers by talking about his experience as a weekly volunteer driver for the past seven years. It resonated with many when he shared, “delivering meals is a concrete way I can make a difference in the community where I live and am raising my children.”
The success of this Open House in Newton has provided a well thought out model for future events in other communities to support the ongoing need for volunteers. Springwell appreciates all that CitySide Subaru and MetroWest Subaru do to “share the love” with older adults and are especially grateful for the help in getting more meals delivered to more older adults in a timely fashion.
